Ooredoo Becomes First MENA Operator to Adopt GSMA Camara Open-Network APIs, Enhancing 5G and IoT Personalization

Ooredoo has become the first operator in the MENA region to adopt the GSMA Camara open-network APIs, integrating 5G and IoT technologies to enhance personalization for both customers and developers. This initiative leverages advanced telecom features, including silent authentication, edge computing, and security services, aimed at simplifying developer integration and creating scalable global services.

The API deployment has launched in the Maldives, with plans for expansion across Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, and Algeria. Timos Tsokanis, Group CTIO at Ooredoo, emphasized that the APIs will improve service reliability, accelerate online transactions, and offer advanced payment solutions and anti-fraud tools to developers and businesses, enhancing customer journeys and fostering business growth.

This move aligns with GSMA’s broader Open Gateway initiative launched in 2023, aimed at creating a unified framework for open APIs and promoting collaboration between telecom operators and developers.
