Qatar Blocks Roblox Over Child Safety Concerns

Qatar has blocked access to the global online gaming platform Roblox, citing child safety concerns following a wave of social media calls for action. The restriction aligns Qatar with countries such as China, Turkey, and Oman that have banned the platform over similar risks.

While Roblox can still be downloaded in Qatar, users encounter “No Network” errors on mobile and an inaccessible browser version. Monitoring group OONI detected access issues on August 13, though authorities have yet to release an official statement.

The ban follows growing parental and activist concerns over unmonitored interactions, inappropriate content, and potential exploitation risks within Roblox’s user-generated worlds. It reflects a broader regional and global trend of tightening controls on platforms failing to meet child protection standards.
