Omantel partners with Ciena to launch high-capacity managed fibre network in Oman

Omantel has launched a new Managed Optical Fibre Network (MOFN) in partnership with Ciena, significantly boosting Oman’s role as a regional hub for hyperscale, AI, and cloud-driven economies. Powered by Ciena’s WaveLogic™ 6 coherent optics, the network can deliver up to 1.6 Tbps per wavelength across both C and L bands.

The MOFN service offers secure, scalable connectivity designed for hyperscalers, cloud providers, and large enterprises with demanding digital infrastructure requirements. Omantel will design, deploy, and manage the end-to-end network, enabling bandwidth-on-demand, real-time SLA monitoring, automated provisioning, and workload adaptability.

The new fibre footprint connects international cable landing stations and carrier-neutral data centers such as MC1 in Muscat and Equinix SN1 in Salalah, establishing a resilient digital backbone between Asia, Africa, Australia, and Europe. Through collaboration with Zain Group and Zain Omantel International (ZOI), Omantel will also extend international capacity across regional markets.

With advanced encryption, QKD interworking, and intelligent automation, the platform supports secure transmission for government, financial, and enterprise customers. The initiative aligns with Oman’s Vision 2040 and strengthens its positioning as a high-performance digital gateway for global businesses.
