Airtel Malawi has officially launched its 5G network across select districts and rolled out nationwide VoLTE on its 4G network. The new 5G service is live on 56 sites in ten districts including Lilongwe, Blantyre, Mzuzu City, Kasungu, Mangochi, Mchinji, Mzimba and Zomba. With ultra-low latency and high capacity, Airtel says the network will support smart cities, e-health, digital education and advanced enterprise applications.
The operator’s VoLTE service is now available across all Airtel Malawi sites, offering clearer calls, faster connection times and the ability to stay on 4G data during voice calls. The 5G launch comes four months after rival TMN introduced its own 5G network in Lilongwe.
Airtel Malawi MD Aashish Dutt said the dual rollout reflects years of planned investment. The company has also been strengthening its backbone with expanded international fibre routes via Tanzania and Mozambique, reinforced local transmission infrastructure and 90 new sites nationwide
