HUTCH, one of Sri Lanka’s leading mobile service providers, has expanded its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives by collaborating with the Ministry of Education to distribute 100 electric bicycles to schools. The event, held on April 25 at the Ministry’s premises, aims to support students in rural areas facing transportation challenges.
The initiative targets schoolchildren in the Anuradhapura district, aligning with the Ministry’s vision to ensure access to education through sustainable solutions. This project reinforces HUTCH’s commitment to enhancing educational access and empowering community development across Sri Lanka.
The event was attended by Dr. Madhura Senevirathne, Deputy Minister of Education, and Shakila Wijesinghe, Acting Chief Financial Officer of HUTCH, along with other dignitaries from both the Ministry and HUTCH. It highlights a strengthened collaboration between the public and private sectors, addressing practical barriers to education for rural students.
Dr. Madhura Senevirathne expressed gratitude, stating, “This thoughtful initiative by HUTCH supports our efforts to reduce educational disparities across regions. Ensuring students in remote areas have reliable transport not only helps them attend school but contributes to building a stronger nation.”
Saumitra Gupta, CEO of HUTCH Sri Lanka, emphasized, “This project aligns with our mission to bridge educational access gaps while promoting sustainability. We are proud to partner with the Ministry to help students overcome transportation barriers and build a future where every child has the opportunity to learn.”
This initiative is part of HUTCH’s broader CSR agenda, focusing on sustainability, education, and community empowerment. Through such efforts, HUTCH continues to demonstrate its corporate values extend beyond telecommunications, contributing to a more inclusive and sustainable Sri Lanka.
