Kathmandu—Participants at an interaction program organized by the Information Security Response Team Nepal (npCert), in collaboration with the Centre for Cyber Security Research and Innovation (CSR) and Texas College of Management and IT, emphasized the urgent need for cybersecurity education and awareness, along with the development of a practical policy framework to address increasing cyber threats and gaps in existing regulations.
Rajib Subba, former deputy inspector general of Nepal Police, highlighted the importance of enhancing educational programs focused on practical skill development to prepare the next generation of cybersecurity professionals. FinTech expert Ganesh Ghimire provided an in-depth analysis of the prospects and challenges of cross-border transactions in Nepal, emphasizing the need for stronger security measures to protect international financial dealings.
Resham Bhandari from InfoDevelopers stressed the importance of cyber literacy at the grassroots level, arguing that raising awareness among the general population is crucial for creating a secure digital environment. Chiranjibi Adhikari, president of npCert, underscored the need for a comprehensive National Cybersecurity Policy to fortify Nepal’s digital infrastructure against rising cyber threats.
Other speakers, including Sharad Chandra Pyakurel, Birendra Singh Dhami, Suman Thapaliya, and Dhurba Raj Sharma, general secretary of npCert, highlighted the importance of bridging the gap between policy formulation and implementation to ensure effective execution and adaptability to emerging cyber challenges.
