Oman’s Telecom Regulator Seeks Public Input on Spectrum Optimization for Advanced Communication Technologies

The national telecom regulator of Oman has launched a public consultation to discuss the optimal use of the 1980-2010 MHz and 2170-2200 MHz frequency bands. This initiative aims to enhance spectrum resources to better support the evolution of International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) systems, including innovative services like satellite Internet of Things (IoT).

As the demand for radio spectrum grows with the advancement of communication technologies, the regulator is focused on assessing the current and prospective uses of these specific frequency bands. The consultation’s primary goals include promoting efficient spectrum management, fostering a regulatory environment that encourages investment, and stimulating innovation in communication technologies.

The focus of this initiative is twofold: to stay aligned with rapid technological advancements in radio communications and to improve the quality of telecommunications services available to the public. By creating a more flexible and investment-attractive landscape, the Authority aims to encourage the development of groundbreaking technologies and services.

Stakeholders and the general public are encouraged to participate by submitting their views on the consultation document by the deadline of July 25, 2024. While all feedback will be considered, the regulator retains the discretion to decide which comments will influence the final decision-making process.
