STARLINK and Other Satellite Broadband Companies Eyeing Pakistan, Await Licensing Approval

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has informed the National Assembly that STARLINK, along with other Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite broadband operators, is eager to begin operations in Pakistan. However, none have met the licensing requirements for commercial services yet. STARLINK, registered as “STARLINK Internet Services Pakistan (Private) Ltd” since December 2021, applied for an LDI license in February 2022 but has yet to comply with all technical and regulatory requirements. The approval process is ongoing, with concerns raised by national agencies being addressed. The recently approved National Space Policy (NSP) of Pakistan, along with new space activity rules, is guiding these companies through the necessary registration and licensing processes.
