Oman Launches Social Protection Fund e-Portal for Enhanced Employer Services

MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman has introduced a new Social Protection Fund (SPF) e-portal, allowing employers to verify expatriate worker data and update wages, marking a significant step in the nation’s electronic governance efforts. This initiative aligns with Oman’s broader digital transformation strategy and is designed to offer employers across the country transparent and efficient services.

Starting today, the e-portal, available at www.spf.gov.om, empowers employers to manage worker data and ensure wage information is current. The SPF has launched this system to streamline interactions between employers and the Fund, enhancing the overall efficiency of operations.

Key Responsibilities and Deadlines for Employers

Monthly Invoices: The SPF will generate monthly contribution invoices based on the data in the portal, with the next invoice scheduled for August 31, 2024. Employers must settle these invoices by the payment deadline of September 15, 2024.

Employer Duties:

  • Portal Familiarization: Employers are encouraged to explore the e-portal and familiarize themselves with its functionalities.
  • Data Verification: It is crucial for employers to verify the accuracy of their workers’ data, including both Omani and expatriate employees.
  • Wage Updates: Employers should update wage information through the e-portal or appropriate government systems.
  • Regular Monitoring: Employers are advised to monitor the portal regularly for updates and notifications.

System Integration and Data Management

Employment contracts for both Omani and expatriate workers will be automatically registered and terminated via integration with various systems, including Mawred, Rio, and the Ministry of Labour’s system. This ensures a streamlined process for both government and private sectors.

Employers must address any discrepancies in worker data immediately. If private sector workers are not accurately reflected on the SPF portal, employers should coordinate with the Ministry of Labour for proper registration.

Non-governmental employers and some government units are required to update wages directly through the SPF portal, while other government units using Mawred and Rio systems will handle updates within those platforms.

Given that the monthly contribution bill is calculated based on the data and wages entered in the portal, it is essential for employers to regularly verify and update worker information to avoid any discrepancies.
