Egypt’s Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) and the National Telecommunications Institute (NTI) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ZTE to launch local production of telecommunications equipment. The initiative includes manufacturing fixed network stations and optical fiber products within the country.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly during the China-Africa Cooperation Forum Summit held in Beijing.
This partnership will enable ZTE to begin producing communication terminals and optical network distribution products, such as fiber optic cables and distribution boxes, in Egypt. The goal is to strengthen Egypt’s technology sector while enhancing its capacity to export telecommunications products across the Middle East and North Africa region.
In addition, ZTE will set up two state-of-the-art training labs featuring 5G and optical fiber technologies (GPON). These labs, designed to offer both theoretical and hands-on training, will train 1,200 ICT professionals over the next three years, supporting Egypt’s digital transformation by developing a highly skilled workforce.
Through local manufacturing and the establishment of 5G training labs, this collaboration will play a pivotal role in positioning Egypt as a leader in telecommunications and digital infrastructure in the region.
