Clear Blue Technologies to Power Telecom Sites in Africa with Solar Energy

Clear Blue Technologies, a leading provider of smart power solutions, has announced the execution of a Notice of Award agreement with Growth Energy, a company specializing in the development, engineering, procurement, construction, and operation of clean energy power plants in Africa.

As part of the agreement, Clear Blue will serve as the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partner for Growth Energy, supplying its Esite-Micro power technology and patented Illumience Smart Power management service to power a network of telecom sites across Africa.

One of the key goals of this project is to address the high costs and limited availability of diesel fuel in the region. By converting a network of cell towers to solar energy, the project aims to provide clean, reliable power to critical telecom services.

Although the formal contract has yet to be signed and specific countries have not been mentioned, the project is in its final stages, with preparations underway for financing and the start of the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) phase. Phase one is expected to begin shipping in 2024, followed by two additional phases, with a potential value of US$4 million between 2024 and 2026.

Clear Blue, founded in 2011, is focused on providing reliable, low-cost solar and hybrid power for telecom, lighting, Internet of Things devices, and other mission-critical systems. CEO Miriam Tuerk emphasized the significance of this project, stating, “This project exemplifies the shift across Africa towards replacing diesel-based systems with eco-friendly, cost-effective solar power. Clear Blue’s Smart Power technology, with advanced energy forecasting and management, was essential in meeting the performance targets of the customer.”

Growth Energy’s Managing Director, John Okoro, highlighted the importance of Clear Blue’s involvement, noting, “As a technology company with the ability to operate and manage systems, Clear Blue will support Growth Energy’s teams during the long-term operation and maintenance phase, ensuring the project delivers on its performance expectations and long-term benefits.”
