Grameenphone, Bangladesh’s top telecommunications provider, has been awarded the prestigious Asian Technology Award 2024 in the Digital – Telecommunications category for its MyGP app. This accolade, presented by the Asian Business Review, highlights MyGP’s pivotal role in enhancing the digital experience for millions of users across Bangladesh.
The Asian Technology Awards recognize cutting-edge technological innovations that disrupt industries and drive digital transformation. With over 30 million installations, MyGP has revolutionized how customers interact with Grameenphone’s services, offering seamless access to account management, service customization, real-time notifications, and more.
MyGP digitizes 99% of Grameenphone’s offerings, making it the largest local self-service app. It enables one-tap payments, streaming content, and transactions without a data balance, in partnership with mobile financial providers. During the pandemic, the app became instrumental in ensuring uninterrupted education by offering live streaming of classes.
Entertainment has also become a key feature of MyGP, with users accessing live score updates and streaming major sporting events, including the Cricket World Cup, through partnerships with multiple OTT platforms. Its advanced cloud-native architecture supports up to 8,000 transactions per second and serves over 20 million monthly active users.
The latest update, MyGP 5.0, introduces an enhanced user experience based on customer feedback, significantly boosting engagement.
Grameenphone’s Chief Digital Officer, Solaiman Alam, expressed the company’s excitement at receiving the award, stating, “MyGP is more than just a sales and services app. It’s a platform that empowers our users and sets new benchmarks for service delivery and technological advancement.”
Niranjan Srinivasan, Chief Information Officer, added, “Developed entirely in Bangladesh by local talent, MyGP is designed with our customers in mind. We take pride in leading this transformative journey and are committed to exploring new ways to empower our users with seamless services.”
