Md Nahid Islam, the Telecommunications and Information Technology Adviser, called on Banglalink officials to consider introducing unlimited internet packages to meet public demand. This request was made during a meeting with a Banglalink delegation at the Posts and Telecommunications Division office, according to a ministry press release.
Nahid Islam, who also serves as the adviser for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, emphasized the need for mobile operators to offer unlimited internet packages and reduce internet costs, responding to the growing demands of the youth.
During the discussion, Kaan Terzioglu, CEO of Veon Limited, highlighted the need for reducing taxes on SIM cards in Bangladesh. The adviser acknowledged the issue and noted that discussions with the Ministry of Finance are necessary due to their involvement in tax matters. Terzioglu also expressed a keen interest in expanding investments in Bangladesh.
Additional concerns were raised by Banglalink’s Chief Legal Officer, Jaharat Adeeb Chowdhury, regarding restrictions on their popular app “Toffee.” The adviser assured that these issues would be considered.
The meeting was also attended by Erik Aas, CEO of Banglalink, Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer Taimur Rahman, and other senior officials.
