Bahrain Advances Clean Energy Goals with Powerlec Bahrain 2024

Manama, Bahrain – The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) today announced its partnership with Powerlec Bahrain 2024, an international trade fair and conference focusing on solar energy, renewables, storage, power, and electrical industries. This collaboration underscores Bahrain’s commitment to renewable energy initiatives aligned with Vision 2030 for a sustainable, clean energy future.

Powerlec Bahrain 2024 was inaugurated today in Manama by HE Mohamed Abduljabbar Alkoheji, Second Vice Chairman of BCCI, who also gave a keynote speech at the event. Organized by Verifair, the expo will run from September 23-25, 2024, featuring a conference themed ‘Bahrain’s Net Zero Ambition – Unfolding Renewables, Green Hydrogen for a Sustainable, Decarbonized Economy.’

Fareed Bader, Chairman of the Industry & Energy Committee at BCCI, highlighted Bahrain’s proactive role in adopting renewable energy and efficiency strategies to contribute to the global sustainability movement and combat climate change effects from fossil fuels. “Partnering with Powerlec Bahrain 2024 is another chance for Bahrain to showcase its achievements in the circular economy,” he remarked.

According to the US Government’s International Trade Administration (ITA), Bahrain has surpassed its energy efficiency targets six years ahead of schedule, reinforcing its leadership in sustainable practices and commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Key partners for Powerlec Bahrain 2024 include the Dubai Renewable Energy Business Group (DREBG), Dubai Chamber of Commerce, and the Middle East Solar Industry Association (MESIA). Hinde Liepmannsohn, Executive Director of MESIA, emphasized Bahrain’s significant strides under the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan (NEEAP) and the National Renewable Energy Action Plan (NREAP) to position itself as a leader in renewable energy within the MENA region.

Bahrain’s focus on solar, wind, and waste-to-energy projects aims to generate 280 megawatts of renewable electricity by 2025 and increase this to 710 megawatts by 2035, as reported by ITA.

L. K Verma, Chairman of DREBG, mentioned, “This is the first time such an extensive debate on sustainability is hosted in Bahrain, with distinguished speakers discussing how to accelerate environmental protection measures in line with NEEAP and NREAP under the Vision 2030 of the Kingdom.”

Powerlec Bahrain 2024 features eminent speakers including Eng. Ebtisam Isa Al-Shenoo, Basim Al Saie, H.E Jassim Al Shirawi, IMED Derouiche, Eng. Fatima N. Al Bastaki, Dr. Abeer Shaheen, Ali Salman Ali Salman, and Bhami Ilyas, who will share insights on enhancing renewable energy generation and supporting the kingdom’s decarbonization and transformation efforts.
