In a recent update by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), cellular subscriptions in Pakistan saw a slight increase, with numbers rising from 192.924 million at the end of July 2024 to 193.098 million by August 2024. This period also witnessed a growth in 3G and 4G users, escalating from 136.312 million to 137.920 million.
The penetration rate for Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS) rose modestly from 56.15% to 56.72%, maintaining the cellular teledensity at a steady 79% by the end of August.
Among the major operators, Jazz reported a decrease in 3G users from 2.897 million to 2.718 million, although its 4G subscribers increased from 47.993 million to 48.843 million. Zong’s 3G subscribers slightly declined from 1.955 million to 1.932 million, but it gained in 4G subscribers, increasing from 37.153 million to 37.627 million.
Telenor also saw a reduction in 3G users from 1.551 million to 1.519 million, while its 4G subscribers rose from 24.929 million to 25.189 million. Ufone’s 3G user base diminished slightly from 2.197 million to 2.167 million, but it observed an increase in 4G users, from 15.975 million to 16.243 million.
Additionally, the PTA addressed a significant number of consumer complaints in August 2024, resolving 19,061 out of 19,223 complaints, which represents a 99% resolution rate. Most of these complaints were directed at cellular mobile operators (CMOs), with Jazz, Telenor, Zong, and Ufone being the primary subjects. Jazz notably resolved 99.9% of its 7,460 complaints, while Telenor and Zong resolved 99% and 99.5% of their complaints, respectively. Ufone lagged slightly behind with a 97.2% resolution rate of its 2,352 complaints.
