Grameenphone has earned the Bangladesh Technology Excellence Award 2024 in the Digital – Telecommunications category for its innovative mobile app, MyGP. This app, installed on over 30 million smartphones, has digitized 99% of the company’s services, revolutionizing how digital services are delivered across Bangladesh.
MyGP facilitates a range of services, from streaming sports and content from local and global OTT platforms to enabling seamless one-tap payments. It has significantly enhanced financial inclusivity by integrating with leading mobile financial services and payment gateways, allowing users to top up their balance directly from their mobile wallets.
During the pandemic, MyGP expanded its offerings to include live streaming of educational classes, ensuring students continued their studies uninterrupted. It also became a hub for sports fans, streaming major events like the Cricket World Cup and other significant sports tournaments.
In partnership with five software firms, Grameenphone has also enhanced its software development capabilities, adopting a hybrid model that combines in-house expertise with external technical resources. The app’s architecture is based on a microservice-driven, cloud-native approach, promoting scalability, flexibility, and robustness.
Currently handling 8,000 transactions per second and serving over five million daily active users, MyGP has reached 20 million monthly active users and maintains top ratings in app stores.
The latest version, MyGP 5.0, introduces a refined information architecture, improving feature discoverability and significantly increasing customer interaction post-launch. This upgrade, validated through extensive user testing, has contributed to a 64% YoY revenue growth for Grameenphone, underscoring the app’s substantial impact on the market.
The Asian Technology Excellence Awards, celebrating its fourth year, recognizes the region’s foremost technological innovators and solutions that are spearheading digital transformation across industries.
