The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is set to improve internet connectivity across the country by preparing to issue a license to Starlink, the satellite internet venture led by Elon Musk.
PTA officials have confirmed that the decision to grant the license has been finalized, pending only security clearance. “Starlink’s license is ready; we are just awaiting security approval,” stated representatives from the PTA.
The rollout of Starlink’s high-speed satellite internet service is anticipated to significantly enhance connectivity, particularly in rural and remote areas where conventional broadband options are often limited or slow.
In addition to obtaining the license, Starlink will need to enter a commercial agreement with Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), which will also require PTA approval.
If all proceeds as planned, Starlink is expected to launch its services in Pakistan within the next year, offering residents nationwide access to reliable and fast satellite internet.
