Vodafone Group has announced that its Egyptian unit’s digital healthcare tools are now operational in 314 local hospitals, benefiting over 6 million patients. The operator aims to extend its services to 26 million citizens in the coming years.
The company launched its digital health services as part of a nationwide initiative focused on enhancing access to healthcare and digitizing operations at Egyptian university hospitals. As part of this project, Vodafone Egypt has equipped hospitals with digital Hospital Information Systems (HIS), enabling online payment systems and electronic health records to streamline administrative and management processes.
According to Vodafone, the deployment of HIS at a teaching hospital in Cairo has resulted in a 32% reduction in average patient waiting times and a nearly 63% decrease in readmission rates. The integration of these digital services has also saved over 50 million Egyptian pounds while transitioning administrative tasks to a fully paperless system.
Vodafone Egypt has set a target to digitally transform an additional 90 teaching hospitals across 13 universities nationwide. The company is also providing technical training to hospital staff to ensure a smooth transition to modern digital services.
The goal of delivering digital health solutions to 26 million Egyptians—approximately 22% of the country’s population—marks one of the largest digital transformation projects in Egypt. Vodafone emphasized its strong track record in assisting university hospitals in their transition to digital services, referencing a European Union (EU)-funded project launched in April 2023 with the Frankfurt University Hospital.
