The Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), through the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA), signed agreements with three mobile operators—Vodafone Egypt, Orange Egypt, and e& Egypt—for the second phase of 5G licences. The signing took place at NTRA’s headquarters in the Smart Village, with representatives from each company in attendance.
Earlier this year, Telecom Egypt secured the first phase of the 5G licence for $150 million, though without specific frequencies or privileges. The agreements aim to enhance 5G services, improve communication quality, and expand network capacity for optimal performance.
Minister of Communications Amr Talaat emphasized the significance of these agreements as part of Egypt’s strategy to deliver advanced technological services, particularly in sectors like smart cities, logistics, healthcare, and agriculture, which rely heavily on Internet of Things (IoT) technologies supported by 5G. He also highlighted the importance of partnership among Egypt’s telecommunications companies in driving continuous service development and economic growth.
The rollout of 5G technology is expected to revolutionize mobile broadband access in Egypt, bringing a qualitative shift in the country’s communications services.
