Kicking off at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), GITEX Global, the world’s largest tech event, featured discussions on ‘Tech Investment Day’ that focused on the next-gen semiconductor market, expected to be valued at $1 trillion by 2030, as well as the future of data governance. This year’s event is themed ‘Global Collaboration to Forge a Future AI Economy.’
The summit coincides with the UAE’s accelerated efforts in adopting AI across various sectors. The country’s AI market was valued at $3.47 billion last year. This year’s GITEX has attracted its largest international participation ever, with a 40% growth, welcoming new nations to its 44th showcase. Europe has a significant presence this week, the largest in the event’s history, with the region’s tech industry projected to grow by 12% by year-end.
Stephane Ouaki, Head of the Department at the European Innovation Council, outlined how Europe is advancing its tech ecosystem. He stated that the Council supports transformative innovations, providing entrepreneurs with opportunities to enhance their knowledge and learn from peers, fostering national and regional economic growth.
Ignacy Niemczycki, Undersecretary of the State Ministry of Economic Development and Technology of Poland, presented on how his country is embracing technology. He remarked, “Our culture is a key pillar in our journey to being a tech leader, and we have maintained a resilient economy for the last 30 years.” He also highlighted Poland’s reputation for producing top-tier IT programmers and innovative tech entrepreneurs.
Attendees heard from Dr. Jaroslaw Kutylowski, founder and CEO of DeepL, a leading German global language AI company, who discussed how his business utilizes large language models (LLMs). He stated, “The models we’ve built have consistently aligned with our products, contributing to our success. As we grow, we’ve invested more into computing technologies and established a data center facility in Sweden.”
