Mashreq, a premier financial services institution in the MENA region, is enhancing its global operations by transitioning its critical databases to Oracle’s Exadata Database Service on Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer. This strategic move is part of an extended collaboration with Oracle, aimed at supporting the bank’s expansion into key international markets, including the United States, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Oman, and Pakistan.
By adopting Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer, Mashreq aims to significantly improve the performance, scalability, and availability of its operations. The bank has been investing in modernizing its operations with Oracle Banking Solutions to support its international growth. This cloud database environment will not only augment operational efficiency and reduce costs through data management automation but also adhere to stringent data governance and compliance with security and residency regulations.
Mohamed Abdel Razek, Group Head of Tech, Transformation & Information at Mashreq, highlighted the strategic benefits of the migration, stating, “Migrating our mission-critical databases to Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer aligns with our goals for international growth and innovation. This will enable us to deliver new products and services through enhanced personalized customer experiences.”
Nick Redshaw, Senior Vice President, Technology, Middle East and Africa, and UAE Country Leader at Oracle, also commented on the collaboration. “Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer will elevate database performance and availability, crucial for delivering and scaling Mashreq’s business-critical services, while ensuring compliance with data locality regulations.”
The implementation of Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer within Mashreq’s data centers aims to minimize latency between applications and data, combining the robust capabilities of Oracle Exadata Database Service and the fully managed Oracle Autonomous Database. This setup provides the flexibility, simplicity, and cost efficiency of cloud services while allowing Mashreq to maintain complete control over their data management and governance. This deployment model ensures a seamless cloud experience for Mashreq, whether on-premises or in a public Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) environment.
