As part of Saudi Vision 2030’s goal to enhance small- and mid-sized enterprises and improve quality of life, Zain KSA has partnered with Huawei to address broadband challenges in the Kingdom. To overcome extreme summer heat, which has hindered traditional optical deployment, Zain turned to 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) technology, providing an efficient broadband solution for homes and small businesses.
Since its launch, Zain’s FWA has doubled in users every year since 2020, with 10% of users now connecting up to 10 devices per CPE. As more users adopt services such as Extended Reality (XR), gaming, and the Internet of Things (IoT), the need for higher speeds is projected to reach 500Mbps by 2025.
To meet the demands of various user segments, Zain KSA and Huawei have introduced the FWA² solution. For home users, FWA Pro delivers ultra-fast downlink speeds of over 300Mbps, low latency under 10ms, and high-quality performance for applications like 8K videos, cloud gaming, and home security.
For users without broadband or those requiring lower speeds, the FWA Lite solution offers 150Mbps downlink rates, 30% better performance than 4G, and 50% lower power consumption. Zain KSA plans to migrate 4G users to 5G FWA soon, while also extending the solution to other Gulf countries.
Business users in sectors like retail and banking can benefit from the FWA Business Solution, which guarantees uplink speeds between 50Mbps and 1Gbps, with a latency under 20ms and 99.99% reliability. This solution will drive digital transformation for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by providing high-bandwidth private lines.
Together, Zain KSA and Huawei are revolutionizing broadband services in Saudi Arabia, furthering the Kingdom’s ambitious Vision 2030 plan.
