Two UAE-based companies, AI pioneer nybl and spacetech leader Space42, have introduced a groundbreaking satellite-enabled AI solution aimed at boosting the efficiency and productivity of oil wells. This innovation marks the first collaborative effort from nybl and Space42’s satellite mobility division, Thuraya, under the Yahsat Space Services business unit, focusing on AI-driven satellite communications solutions.
The partnership allows Thuraya to offer these advanced capabilities through nybl’s AI platform, n.lift, aligning with nybl’s growth strategy and Space42’s objective to employ spacetech across various industries. By integrating sophisticated geospatial, satellite technologies, and AI, this collaboration aims to foster innovation and enhance efficiency across diverse sectors.
The certification process, which spanned six months across 27 oil wells using Thuraya’s satellite network, involved the deployment of a specialized AI module tailored for the oil and gas industry. This module enables the precise prediction of potential failures in electrical submersible pumps, thus allowing preemptive maintenance, reducing downtime, and enhancing production efficiency.
Results from the proof of concept demonstrated significant benefits: operational costs decreased, the lifespan of pumps extended by 20-30%, and oil well production increased by 5%. Additionally, the system improved overall reservoir, energy, and production management by predicting imminent, non-trending failures, offering real-time intelligence for operational enhancements.
Despite the absence of specific customer details, the Middle East, a dominant player in the oil and gas sector, is likely a primary target for this innovative service. This launch follows last year’s announcement of a merger between Bayanat AI, a leading AI-powered geospatial solutions provider, and the global satellite operator, Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat), which led to the creation of Space42. The merger was officially approved in April.
