Digital media is rapidly expanding within the media landscape, necessitating the need to stay updated with advancements in technology and digital intelligence, as emphasized by a visiting Kuwaiti official on Tuesday.
Saad Nafel Al-Azmi, the Head of the New Media Committee at the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) and Assistant Undersecretary of the Kuwaiti Information Ministry for Media Services and New Media, addressed the Permanent Committee for New Media during a meeting at the ASBU headquarters in Tunis. He noted a growing interest in the use of artificial intelligence in the media sector, highlighting the importance for Arab media to keep pace with this emerging trend.
Al-Azmi also pointed out that the New Media Committee’s scope of work at ASBU has significantly broadened, demonstrating the Union’s commitment to the field. This commitment is exemplified by the introduction of a special competition for new media at the Arab Radio and Television Festival for the first time in the last session.
Abdul Rahim Suleiman, the Director General of the Union, commented on the increasing interest from radio unions worldwide regarding the role of artificial intelligence in media. He emphasized the positive impacts of AI, which enhance efficiency, improve audience engagement, and foster optimism among viewers.
Suleiman reassured the audience of the ASBU’s commitment to remaining at the forefront of technological advancements in the media. He outlined the Union’s work plan, which includes staying updated with the latest technological developments and making these resources available to its member organizations.
The Union’s commitment is further demonstrated by offering training courses focused on the use of artificial intelligence in media production and broadcasting, building confidence in the audience about the Union’s readiness for the future. Suleiman highlighted that the Union serves as a leading example of employing artificial intelligence technologies successfully in various events and activities, including the announcement of results for the Arab Radio and Television Festival competitions. He remarked, “I listened to the report of the News and Program Exchange Center, which discussed the use of mobile journalism in producing news reports, especially in war and conflict zones.”
Additionally, the report sheds light on events in the Palestinian territories, documenting Israeli crimes through mobile phones of citizens and activists, with verification processes in place.
Committee members were informed about the training courses completed on topics related to digital media, social media, and the applications of artificial intelligence in radio and television production and broadcasting at the Arab Training Center in Damascus and the Union Academy for Media Training.
