Nepal Telecom (NTC) has donated funds to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund to support government rehabilitation efforts for victims of the recent floods and landslides caused by heavy rains from Bhadra 10 to 12, 2081.
This contribution is part of NTC’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Earlier, the national telecommunications provider also provided free voice, SMS, and SIM cards to people in Jajarkot who were affected by an earthquake in November 2023. This year, millions of Nepalese have been directly and indirectly impacted by continuous rainfall and the subsequent floods and landslides. In fulfilling its CSR commitments, NTC has extended its assistance to affected individuals in Kathmandu and various other regions.
In addition to NTC, private telecom company Ncell has also supported flood and landslide victims in Godavari, Lalitpur Metropolitan City, by providing essential daily needs. It is commendable that, despite being commercial enterprises, these large telecommunications companies share a strong commitment to community support. Ncell has also invited applications for 19 community projects.
Both companies are collaborating with the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology to send alerts to facilitate rescue efforts during floods.
For the relief efforts of the flood victims, Nepal Telecom employees collected and submitted a total of Rs 1,02,70,214. In the presence of Minister of Communication and Information Technology Honorable Prithvi Subba Gurung, Secretary of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MoCIT) Radhika Aryal, and chief officers of Nepal Telecom, Sangita Pahadi, Managing Director of the company, handed over a letter to Honorable Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, informing him of the fund’s submission to the PM Disaster Relief Fund. This meeting took place at the office of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Councils on 2081-07-17.
During the occasion, Prime Minister Oli praised NTC for its humanitarian efforts, recognizing the telecom giant as a national asset. He also urged the company to continue providing high-quality telecommunications services to the public while upholding its reputation.
