Bahrain and AWS Partner to Launch AI Upskilling Initiative for Local Talent

Bahrain’s labor fund, Tamkeen, in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS), has announced a new national program to enhance local expertise in Artificial Intelligence. This initiative aims to upskill Bahraini individuals by offering three main qualifications, focusing on generative AI, the application of machine learning in production, and the use of technology to solve business challenges.

The launch was announced at the second Gateway Gulf Investment Forum in Bahrain, themed ‘Investing in a Rapidly Transforming Region.’ The event saw extensive international involvement from prominent government figures, business leaders, and industry executives.

Tamkeen CEO Maha Abdulhameed Mofeez highlighted the fund’s dedication to advancing national capabilities in cutting-edge technologies, thereby boosting Bahrain’s global stance as an innovation hub. “This program is set to prepare Bahraini nationals for roles as AI generalists, specialists, and startup founders, sharing AWS’s best practices in cloud computing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence,” Mofeez stated.

She further detailed that this partnership aligns with Tamkeen’s strategic goals for 2024, which are centered on creating economic impact and bolstering the private sector. The strategy includes increasing economic participation by creating job opportunities for newcomers, expanding career development for the Bahraini workforce, and enhancing private sector productivity and technology adoption.
