Zain South Sudan Resumes Operations in Abyei After Technical Disruptions

Zain South Sudan has resumed its operations in the Abyei Special Administrative Area (ASAA) following a two-month interruption due to technical issues, officials confirmed.

Bulis Koch, Abyei’s Minister of Information, Communication, Telecommunication and Postal Services, stated in an interview with Radio Tamazuj that his office had contacted Zain technicians two months ago when the network was inactive, and they responded to the situation.

He emphasized the importance of Zain’s services as an alternative for the local community, particularly when the MTN network experiences outages. “I have been in contact with the national communication authority, and their technicians began repairs in Wau and Aweil, and today they managed to fix our damaged network,” he said.

Minister Koch also noted that the technicians had encountered security issues, having been robbed while traveling between Abyei and Twic County. He mentioned that the technicians had not informed him of their arrival in Wunrock Payam in Twic County, contrary to prior advice, which led to their unfortunate encounter with robbers.

Despite these challenges, the minister reported that the security situation remains stable along the borders of Abyei, Twic, Ruweng, Aweil, and Unity States, with only isolated incidents occurring.

Residents of Abyei expressed their appreciation for the Zain network. Amal Agal mentioned that it was particularly reliable for international calls, while Achok Deng highlighted its overall reliability for communication.
