On Monday, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met with Deemah AlYahya, the Secretary-General of the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO), to discuss the significant strides Iraq has made in digital transformation. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) highlighted that Iraq’s digital transformation is integral to the country’s broader strategy for digital business and artificial intelligence (AI), in line with global trends and government objectives.
Al-Sudani emphasized that the Iraqi government has incorporated digital transformation into its economic and administrative reforms, including the promotion of electronic payments. He also highlighted the government’s intent to collaborate with the DCO to implement initiatives that will benefit both Iraq and the wider region in the realm of digital transformation and AI.
In late September, during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79) in New York, AlYahya praised Iraq’s decision to join the DCO. She noted that Iraq would soon begin implementing several action plans and programs following its formal membership, which will offer the country access to the DCO’s expertise, training, and support.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani expressed his appreciation for AlYahya’s commitment to Iraq’s accession, emphasizing the value of the DCO in providing knowledge, training, and regulatory frameworks for the country’s digital enterprises, particularly in digital commerce.
Additionally, Al-Sudani discussed the comprehensive plan for AI and digital businesses being developed by Iraq’s Supreme Committee for Digital Transformation. The plan is designed to foster growth and innovation in Iraq’s digital sector.
