Morocco has risen to 76th place in the 2024 Network Readiness Index (NRI), improving by one spot from its previous ranking. The NRI, released by the Portulans Institute in partnership with the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford, evaluates 133 economies based on their ability to leverage information and communication technologies (ICT).
The index, which scores countries on a scale from 0 to 100, is based on four pillars: Technology, People, Governance, and Impact, assessed through 54 performance indicators. The United States maintained its position at the top of the rankings for the third consecutive year, followed by Singapore, Finland, and Sweden.
In the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, Morocco ranks 8th, outperforming countries like Iran, Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria, although it still trails behind Gulf nations such as the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
The report’s authors, Soumitra Dutta and Bruno Lanvin, highlight the significant role of digital public-private partnerships (DPPPs) in advancing the global digital transformation. These partnerships, they explain, are flexible frameworks designed to boost digital innovation and enhance public service delivery. The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated the value of digital infrastructure in revolutionizing public services, with examples like telemedicine and remote learning.
The report also stresses the importance of strong governance frameworks that ensure transparency and shared responsibility, urging nations to adopt innovative financing models such as blended funding to drive sustainable digital progress.
