BNET Completes Acquisition of Amwaj Islands’ Fixed-Fibre Infrastructure

Bahrain Network (BNET), the national company responsible for providing fibre-based broadband services in Bahrain, has successfully acquired Amwaj Islands’ fixed-fibre infrastructure network assets.

The acquisition follows a close collaboration between both parties since 2022, and it will allow BNET to expand its network coverage and enhance telecommunications services for all users and residents in the area.

Ahmed Jaber Alhogbani Aldoseri, CEO of BNET, expressed, “This acquisition supports the vision of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to achieve competitive and sustainable growth in the telecommunications and ICT sector, which is a vital foundation for various industries.”

Saud Kanoo, Chairman of Ossis Property Developers, commented, “Through our partnership with BNET, we are excited to enable the residents of Amwaj Islands to enjoy efficient and uninterrupted telecommunications services. We also aim to support the government’s efforts towards establishing a unified network in Bahrain.”

This landmark acquisition will extend BNET’s coverage to over 6,000 additional addresses. It aims to foster healthy competition between all licensed operators while ensuring equal access to their services. Once the migration to BNET’s fibre-optic broadband network is completed in the coming months, consumers will have the freedom to choose their preferred service providers.

Under Bahrain’s Fifth National Telecommunications Plan (NTP5), all fixed telecommunications infrastructure assets are set to be transferred to BNET, solidifying its position as the country’s national broadband operator, offering equitable access to all telecommunications companies in the retail sector.
