BTRC Lifts Ban on Cache Servers for ISPs in Bangladesh

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has approved the use of cache servers by all internet service providers (ISPs). Cache servers, which are local servers maintained by ISPs, enable users to access content from nearby sources rather than using international bandwidth.

This decision marks the repeal of a 2021 directive that had restricted non-nationwide ISPs from setting up cache servers. The previous regulation had forced local ISPs to shut down their cache servers, leaving only international internet gateways, national internet exchanges, mobile operators, and nationwide ISPs to maintain such infrastructure. With the new policy, all ISPs are now allowed to install and manage cache servers, helping optimize bandwidth usage and improve internet service efficiency.
