On Tuesday, Iraq’s Ministry of Communications announced a significant partnership with global telecom giant Vodafone to establish a fully government-owned 5G network in the country. Vodafone, a leading telecommunications provider across Europe and Africa, serves over 330 million customers in 15 countries.
Communications Minister Hayam Al-Yasiri expressed that the project aims to improve telecom services, reduce costs, enhance state revenues, and introduce modern technology. Additionally, it is expected to create job opportunities for Iraqi youth and provide them with valuable network management skills.
Peter Dvorak, CEO of Vodafone’s Partner Markets, highlighted the initiative’s potential to accelerate Iraq’s social and economic development. He emphasized Vodafone’s global expertise and commitment to developing the talents of young Iraqis through training programs.
The agreement outlines preparations for the network launch, including network design, commercial proposals, business growth strategies, and ongoing discussions on optimal service management and operational models.
Vodafone’s acquisition of the license to operate Iraq’s national telecommunications network was approved by the Council of Ministers on November 26, marking a milestone in the country’s adoption of 5G technology.
