The opening ceremony of the Middle East Network Operators’ Group and Peering Forum (MENOG 24) took place yesterday at the Grand Millennium Hotel in Muscat, Oman. Hosted by AWASR, an Omani telecommunications provider specializing in high-speed fibre-optic broadband services, the event gathered leading experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss advancements in internet infrastructure, share insights, and foster collaboration across the Middle East.
Eng. Adnan Al Alawi, CEO of AWASR, expressed pride in hosting the event, stating, “MENOG 24 provides an essential platform to address the challenges and opportunities facing the internet in the Middle East. By fostering collaboration, we can build a future-proof internet that supports the region’s digital transformation journey.” Eugen Comendant, CCO of AWASR, emphasized AWASR’s commitment to driving digital innovation in Oman and the wider Middle East, contributing to the development of a resilient internet ecosystem that empowers both individuals and businesses.
Organized by the RIPE NCC, the Regional Internet Registry for Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia, MENOG 24 serves as a key platform for discussing the latest developments in internet technology and best practices. The agenda includes sessions on IPv6 adoption, routing security, network innovation, and emerging challenges in the region’s internet landscape.
Oman has been at the forefront of digital transformation, notably through its National Programme for Digital Economy. This initiative aims to establish secure, advanced infrastructure to facilitate a digital government and support economic and social development plans, in line with Oman Vision 2040.
The RIPE NCC has played an integral role in advancing the adoption of critical technologies like IPv6 and RPKI in the Middle East. Its collaborative efforts with governments, network operators, regulators, and academic institutions have been instrumental in meeting the region’s unique needs.
MENOG 24 features technical workshops, interactive panel discussions, and networking opportunities, offering participants valuable insights and technical expertise. The event is open to network engineers, policymakers, academics, and anyone interested in advancing internet technologies in the region. As the Middle East continues to embrace digital transformation, MENOG 24 remains a vital gathering to address challenges, share best practices, and build a resilient, future-proof internet.
