Nokia and Ooredoo Oman have announced a groundbreaking partnership to transform the nation’s connectivity through the deployment of a state-of-the-art dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) wholesale network. The new project aims to meet the growing needs of hyperscalers’ data centres, AI-driven applications, and cloud-based platforms, positioning Oman as a key connectivity hub linking the Indian Ocean, the Gulf, and Europe.
The high-capacity network is powered by Nokia’s 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS), a family of DWDM multiservice, multilayer packet optical transport network (P-OTN) transport platforms, designed to deliver efficient transport at any scale. This will ensure trusted performance using WDM transmission across C and L bands, simplifying network operations and speeding up service delivery through the WaveSuite optical automation software.
The new network is set to provide low-latency connectivity for hyperscalers and wholesale customers, enabling seamless traffic flow to global destinations. The commercial launch of the network services is expected in March 2025.
This collaboration aligns with Oman Vision 2040, an initiative focused on enhancing the country’s global competitiveness and strengthening its digital infrastructure. The new network will establish Ooredoo Oman as a pivotal player in the global data traffic ecosystem, providing world-class connectivity to empower businesses and communities throughout the region.
