Egypt’s Telecom Operators Agree to New Quality Standards and Penalties for Service Improvement

The four telecommunication companies operating in Egypt have signed new agreements aimed at improving the quality of services across the country, according to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.

The agreements introduce updated quality penalty mechanisms, which have been approved by the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA). These mechanisms hold operators accountable for meeting specific service standards and encourage increased investment in infrastructure improvements.

Under the revised framework, any company that fails to meet the quality standards outlined in their licenses will face financial penalties that are double the amount previously imposed. However, instead of paying these fines directly, operators will now be required to invest the penalty amounts into improving their network coverage and service quality in specific areas, as directed by the NTRA.

This initiative aims to enhance mobile service quality across Egypt, with a particular focus on remote areas. The initiative aligns with the NTRA’s ongoing efforts to expand telecommunications access through the Universal Service Fund. Additionally, the new penalties encourage operators to work toward improving Egypt’s performance in international telecom service rankings.

The move represents a significant step in strengthening Egypt’s telecommunications infrastructure and improving the overall quality of mobile services for users across the nation.
