Ericsson and AXIAN Telecom have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on digitally upskilling young people across the African nations where both companies operate. This partnership leverages the Ericsson Educate program, which is part of Ericsson’s Connect To Learn initiative. The collaboration aims to provide access to high-quality educational content while equipping students with essential digital skills for the future workforce.
Ericsson’s Connect To Learn program has already reached over 485,000 students in 43 countries and will expand its impact through this new partnership. The Ericsson Educate platform offers a wide range of learning opportunities in fields such as 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT), automation, cloud computing, and telecommunications. By completing these courses, students will gain valuable, in-demand skills for today’s digital economy and earn digital credential badges to showcase their achievements.
AXIAN Telecom’s commitment to empowering African youth will play a critical role in the success of this initiative, particularly by focusing on training university students across the continent. The partnership will align with AXIAN Telecom’s ongoing university initiatives and support Ericsson Educate’s programs to provide the best tools and training to help students thrive in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
In each country where the partnership is deployed, AXIAN Telecom and Ericsson will work with local partners to develop tailored strategies that meet the specific needs of youth in each market. This localized approach ensures the project’s sustainability and relevance, contributing to the long-term success of digital education in Africa.
During a visit to the Ericsson Imagine Studio in Kista, Sweden, earlier this year, leadership teams from both companies reaffirmed their shared vision of advancing digital inclusion through education, setting the stage for this strategic collaboration. The partnership builds on previous successful collaborations, including the Connect To Learn program with AXIAN Telecom’s subsidiary, Yas Sénégal, which launched earlier this year in collaboration with the Senegal Ministry of National Education. This program created a digital educational ecosystem in five public elementary schools, serving as a model for future initiatives.
Hassan Jaber, CEO of AXIAN Telecom, said, “Our partnership with Ericsson is a transformative step in fostering digital education across Africa. By combining AXIAN Telecom’s deep understanding of local communities with Ericsson’s educational platforms, we are equipping students with the tools to thrive in the digital age. This collaboration aligns with the recent launch of our unified brand, Yas, which resonates with youth and represents optimism and opportunity.”
Majda Lahlou Kassi, Vice President and Head of Ericsson West Africa & Morocco, added, “We are proud to partner with AXIAN Telecom on this initiative. Education is the cornerstone of progress, and by empowering students with digital skills, we are unlocking their potential and contributing to Africa’s long-term socioeconomic development. Ericsson Educate will help shape the workforce of tomorrow and ensure no one is left behind in the digital transformation.”
