The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) launched its Annual Report for 2024 on Monday, providing a comprehensive overview of the key technological, infrastructural, regulatory, and consumer-focused reforms and interventions implemented throughout the year.
According to the report, Pakistan’s telecom sector achieved a record revenue of Rs. 955 billion in FY 2023-24, marking an impressive growth of 17% compared to FY 2022-23, despite ongoing economic challenges. Cellular mobile services now reach 91% of the population, with 4G services covering 81%. The total number of telecom subscribers has grown to 196 million as of September 2024.
The number of broadband subscribers also saw a significant rise, growing from 127.6 million in June 2023 to 142.3 million by the end of FY 2023-24. The average mobile internet speed increased by 28%, from 15.65 Mbps to 20.02 Mbps. Additionally, data usage surged by 24.2%, reaching 25,141 terabytes in FY 2023-24. Broadband penetration increased from 53.6% in 2023 to 58.4% in 2024.
In terms of local production, 29.6 million mobile devices were manufactured during FY 2023-24, meeting 94% of the country’s demand. These achievements were driven by a series of strategic regulatory measures aimed at fostering growth and innovation within the telecom sector.
The Annual Report 2024 underscores PTA’s commitment to guiding Pakistan’s telecom industry through a digital transformation, aligning with global standards and continuing to expand access and services across the country. The full report is available on the PTA website.
