Huawei has successfully hosted the Huawei Developers Competition, an event designed to bring together developers, experts, and tech innovators to celebrate creativity and innovation. Building on the success of the “Huawei Developers Conference 2024” held last August, the competition reflects Huawei’s ongoing commitment to nurturing a thriving digital ecosystem. This initiative is aimed at empowering local talent and fostering sustainable digital transformation across Egypt and Northern Africa.
The first phase of the competition saw an enthusiastic participation of 251 teams. After intense competition, eight outstanding teams advanced to the finals: Cloudy, Enjaz, GS Team, Little Mermaid, Manetho, MAY-X, mno, and semicolon. These finalists presented their groundbreaking solutions to a distinguished panel of judges, including Eng. Mahmoud Osama, Electronics Innovation Project Manager at ITIDA; Eng. Sherihan M. Ahmed Abd-Rabou, System Development Department Manager at ITI; Professor Emad Abd-Elrahman, Head of the Computer & Systems Department at NTI; and Ahmed Talaat, CTO of Huawei Cloud Northern Africa.
The competition culminated in the recognition of four winning teams, who will now represent Egypt in the Northern Africa regional competition. The winning projects stood out for their pioneering innovations in key areas, such as smart transportation, supply chain optimization, healthcare development, and enhancing the tourism and logistics sectors.
Further demonstrating its commitment, Huawei signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Higher Education to launch the “Huawei Cloud Club” in Egyptian universities. The Club will focus on developing a cloud ecosystem, collaborating on curriculum development, talent training, certifications, and organizing technical events. This partnership aims to advance cloud computing technology in Egyptian universities, cultivate skilled developers, and further strengthen the Huawei Cloud ecosystem, supporting Egypt’s digital transformation goals.
Dr. Sherif Kishk, Assistant to the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research for Smart Governance, emphasized the critical role of technology in societal development. He remarked, “Empowering youth and fostering a generation of innovators is essential for shaping the future. Huawei’s initiatives, like the Developers Competition, provide young talents a unique opportunity to develop their skills and thrive in an evolving job market.”
Dr. Haitham Hamza, Professor and Vice-Dean at Cairo University, also expressed admiration for the competition’s impact, noting how it highlights Egypt’s potential in the tech industry. He believes that the launch of the Huawei Cloud Club will play a key role in building a robust cloud ecosystem and empowering the next generation of developers.
Huawei’s leadership in the region was underscored by statements from Jason Ye, VP of Huawei Cloud Northern Africa, and Jo Xu, CEO of Huawei Cloud Egypt Business Group. They emphasized that the competition is an important part of Huawei’s strategy to foster local talent and support digital transformation. Huawei is investing heavily in the future of technology in Northern Africa, including the recent launch of the Huawei Cloud Cairo Region, the first public cloud in Northern Africa.
Xingcheng Lee, VP of Huawei Cloud Overseas Developer Ecosystem, also highlighted Huawei’s annual investment of over 1 million USD in developer competitions, illustrating the company’s dedication to advancing global innovation and empowering local talent.
Throughout the competition, Huawei provided exceptional support to participants, offering access to cutting-edge cloud technologies, specialized training, and business development opportunities. The winning teams had the chance to showcase their work globally via KooGallery and received professional certifications and continued technical support from Huawei’s experts to ensure their sustained growth and success.
