Orange Egypt has been honored with the Excellence Award for the “Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative” in the telecommunications sector at the Telecom Review Leaders’ Summit 2024. This prestigious recognition highlights Orange Egypt’s outstanding environmental and climate initiatives, cementing its leadership in sustainability efforts across Africa.
The company’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040—well ahead of Europe’s 2050 target—was a key factor in receiving the award. Orange Egypt has demonstrated impressive strides in environmental responsibility through various initiatives, including recycling, energy conservation, waste reduction, and promoting solar energy, alongside efforts to renew old electronic devices.
In 2023, Orange Egypt reduced its carbon emissions by 18%, with green sustainability practices deployed across its networks, data centers, and branches. Notable achievements include the installation of solar panels in 150 locations and the launch of the first green store in the Middle East and Africa, in Sharm El Sheikh.
The company is also actively participating in the SWITCH2CE project, a collaboration with UNIDO aimed at transitioning to a circular economy and reducing the carbon footprint of electronic equipment. This initiative aligns with Egypt’s National Climate Change Strategy (NCCS 2050) and Orange Group’s broader sustainability commitments.
Orange Egypt’s CEO, Yasser Shaker, emphasized the importance of balancing economic growth with environmental protection, while Tania Asmar, Chief of Staff, Climate, Transformation, and Governance Officer, highlighted the company’s significant progress in energy efficiency, renewable energy adoption, and promoting a circular economy.
