Jordan’s Education Minister Stresses Role of Education in Economic and Social Development

Azmi Mahafza, the Minister of Education and Chairman of the Jordan National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science, highlighted the transformative power of education at the 14th ALECSO Conference of Arab Ministers of Education in Doha. The conference was centered on the theme “Inclusive Education and Empowering Teachers: A Strategic Vision for Education in the Arab World.”

Mahafza emphasized the importance of achieving the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 4), which ensures inclusive, equitable, and quality education. He noted that fulfilling this goal is both a responsibility to current generations and a crucial investment in the Arab world’s future.

He reiterated Jordan’s commitment to SDG 4 and outlined the country’s proactive approach to reshaping education, especially through the integration of digital education and technological innovation. Mahafza pointed to Jordan’s Darsak platform, which aims to ensure equal access to educational resources and promote continuous learning for students.

The minister also discussed the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into education systems, aiming to personalize learning, improve outcomes, and address educational gaps. As part of this vision, Jordan plans to train over 80 percent of its teachers in both educational and technological skills over the next five years, with a focus on Ed Tech and enhancing dynamic classroom interactions.

Jordan is committed to creating inclusive education environments, with flexible curricula that meet the needs of all students, including those with disabilities. Mahafza emphasized that the conference is a key platform for Arab nations to collaborate and devise strategies for delivering high-quality, inclusive education.

In closing, the minister reaffirmed Jordan’s commitment to innovative educational practices and empowering teachers to help students become “agents of change” in an ever-evolving world.
