An expert from the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC) highlighted the ongoing royal backing for Jordan’s ICT sector, acknowledging its critical role in the country’s economic development, according to Petra reports.
During a Cabinet session on Tuesday, His Majesty King Abdullah II stressed the importance of prioritizing the technology sector, noting its essential role in improving the services provided to citizens.
Haitham Rawajbeh, the JCC’s ICT sector representative, reiterated the King’s consistent focus on enhancing the ICT industry as a vital element for national security and economic advancement. He explained that this royal support has motivated local companies to expand their operations, export software services worldwide, and create thousands of job opportunities for Jordanians.
Rawajbeh pointed out the significant strides the sector has made in recent years, establishing Jordan as a regional hub for technical services, entrepreneurship, and innovation. This is especially true in areas like e-government, e-learning, and digital commerce. He also mentioned the importance of Jordan’s robust digital infrastructure, skilled workforce, and a favorable legal framework with tax incentives in driving the sector’s growth.
In alignment with the Economic Modernization Vision, Rawajbeh emphasized the sector’s role in boosting employment and supporting the transition toward a digital economy. He also reflected on the King’s directive to build on Jordan’s leadership in the ICT sector and position it as a regional center for ICT services. This would attract global technology companies and support local entrepreneurs, further contributing to the digital transformation of Gulf countries and enhancing Jordan’s standing as a provider of innovative technical solutions.
Rawajbeh urged for further efforts to solidify Jordan’s position as an ICT services hub, calling for greater support for local investors and companies while encouraging more international players to establish a presence in the Kingdom.
