Nokia and stc Group Achieve Groundbreaking 1Tbps Long-Haul Field Trial in MEA Region

Nokia and stc Group have successfully completed the first 1Tbps long-haul field trial in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region. This milestone, achieved using stc Group’s live Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) network, showcases the potential of Nokia’s sixth generation Photonic Service Engine (PSE-6s) technology for high-capacity, efficient connectivity.

The trial demonstrated the transport of high-speed services over 850km, with 6 x 100GE and 1 x 400GE services carried on a single 1Tbps wavelength. This breakthrough in optical infrastructure allows stc Group to efficiently meet future demands, positioning it to supply reliable connectivity and align with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals for digital transformation.

Nokia’s Data Center Interconnect (DCI) DWDM solution integrates seamlessly into stc Group’s data center environment, offering advanced energy efficiency and supporting AI/cloud services transport. This collaboration sets a new standard for data center interconnectivity in the MEA region and supports Saudi Arabia’s digital infrastructure development, 5G expansion, and cloud computing adoption.

Abdullateef Alsenan from stc Group and Carlo Corti from Nokia both emphasized the significance of this achievement in positioning Saudi Arabia as a global leader in digital innovation and sustainability.
