Iraq Strengthens Partnership with Vodafone for 5G Network Rollout

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a long-term partnership with Vodafone during a meeting with company representatives in London on Thursday. The discussion, held on the sidelines of his official visit to the UK, also included meetings with British officials, such as King Charles III and Prime Minister Keir Starmer, along with industry leaders from various sectors, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The meeting focused on Iraq’s recent agreement with Vodafone to operate the new 5G network being developed by the Ministry of Communications. The agreement is part of Iraq’s broader initiative to modernize its telecommunications infrastructure, reduce costs, boost national income, and enhance service quality for residents.

In late November, the Iraqi cabinet approved Vodafone as the operator for the country’s 5G network. With peak speeds reaching up to 10 gigabits per second, the new network promises faster download speeds and significantly lower latency, facilitating smoother communication.

As Iraq prepares to join the 54 nations that have already adopted 5G technology, the country is making substantial progress in advancing its digital infrastructure, supported by local investments and the backing of the government. The development of the 5G network represents a major leap forward for Iraq’s telecom industry, positioning the nation to benefit from cutting-edge communication technologies.
