Bahrain Enhances Taxi Services with Smart Meter Installations

Fatima Abdullah Al Dhaen, Undersecretary for Land Transport and Post Affairs at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, announced the successful installation of smart taxi meters in individual taxis. This initiative aims to improve land transport services, embrace digital advancements, and ensure fairness and transparency for both drivers and passengers.

Al Dhaen explained that the smart meters offer precise trip details, including driver information, route specifics, fare calculations, and approved tariffs. Key features of the system include automated fare computation, integration with modern ride-hailing apps, and potential future compatibility with electronic payment methods like bank cards and the Benefit app.

The Undersecretary emphasized the ministry’s continuous efforts to enhance infrastructure and foster digital transformation through public-private partnerships. She stressed that these initiatives are critical for providing safe, reliable, and sustainable transport services, contributing to the realization of Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.
