E& Partners with DE-CIX to Expand SmartHub IX and Boost Middle East Digital Economy

E& has opened multiple geo-redundant DE-CIX SmartHub IX data centres, bringing cutting-edge interconnection services to the Middle East. DE-CIX, a leader in carrier and datacentre-neutral internet exchanges (IX), operates in more than 40 metro-markets globally, offering interconnection services that connect thousands of network operators, ISPs, content providers, and enterprise networks across more than 100 countries.

This strategic collaboration aims to enhance the Middle East’s IX ecosystem, expanding SmartHub IX’s reach through direct connections to DE-CIX’s global network and internet exchanges. A key component of the deployment is the introduction of a remote peering service, which will improve network operations for businesses and service providers by offering scalability, cost savings, improved performance, and greater flexibility.

The Fujairah location will host the region’s largest submarine cable landing station, facilitating interconnections for global customers, content providers, and ISPs. The new facilities in Dubai aim to further drive the growth of the IX business, positioning SmartHub IX as a strategic gateway to global markets with seamless cross-border connectivity.

Nabil Baccouche, Group Chief Carrier and Wholesale Officer at E&, emphasized that the partnership with DE-CIX aligns with the company’s vision of fostering an interconnected digital infrastructure, while DE-CIX’s CEO Ivo Ivanov highlighted the importance of strengthening the Middle Eastern interconnection ecosystem.
