Telecom Egypt has announced the activation of a Mediterranean subsea link on the 2Africa subsea cable system, in collaboration with Cisco. This high-capacity link connects Port Said in Egypt to Marseille, France, via Genoa, Italy, addressing the growing demand for expanded subsea network capacity, driven by cloud and AI services.
The project uses Cisco’s Network Convergence System (NCS) and Acacia’s multi-haul coherent module, which provides high performance and energy efficiency. Telecom Egypt aims to enhance its subsea assets on the 2Africa cable, boosting international traffic capacity and supporting bandwidth-intensive services across the Mediterranean and beyond.
Mohamed Nasr, Managing Director and CEO of Telecom Egypt, emphasized that the project addresses the surging demand for cloud computing and AI services. The company also plans to further unlock the potential of its subsea infrastructure with new projects and innovative products in the future.
