Ericsson and Batelco Expand 4G and 5G Network in Bahrain

Ericsson and Batelco have announced the expansion of Batelco’s mobile broadband network, enhancing both 4G and 5G capabilities across Bahrain. The expansion aims to strengthen network coverage and capacity, ensuring improved connectivity and a better user experience for both consumers and enterprises.

As part of this effort, Batelco has deployed Ericsson’s latest radio access network (RAN) products, including Massive MIMO antennas, and modernized its Ericsson Core network infrastructure to the latest network function virtualization infrastructure (NFVI) release. These updates incorporate capacity expansions to meet the growing demand for voice and data traffic.

Batelco has also upgraded to Ericsson’s cloud-native Mediation platform, designed to improve operational efficiency and meet the increasing data needs of consumers. The new platform supports various applications, including Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G Standalone use cases, ensuring flexibility, scalability, and reliability for future network services.

Rashed Mohamed, Chief Technology Officer at Batelco, highlighted the company’s dedication to providing cutting-edge digital services and improving user experiences. Nicolas Blixell, Vice President and Head of Gulf Council Countries at Ericsson, emphasized the successful milestone in their partnership, which is driving enhanced connectivity across Bahrain.

This network expansion represents Batelco and Ericsson’s commitment to strengthening Bahrain’s digital infrastructure and meeting the growing connectivity demands of the future.
