stc Deploys Juniper 400G Routers to Expand 5G Network Across Saudi Arabia

Juniper Networks announced that Saudi Arabian telecommunications company stc will implement Juniper 400G routers in its core network and selected data centres to support the expansion of its 5G network to cover 75 cities and regions in Saudi Arabia.

According to Juniper, stc required additional capacity in its core network and data centres to support B/OSS systems for mobile, broadband, residential, and B2B services. The goal was to build an energy-efficient elastic fabric capable of streamlining operations and simplifying the network as services grow and evolve.

For the core network, stc deployed Juniper’s PTX10008 packet transport routers, offering 115.2 Tbps capacity and 800G readiness to meet future demands. The upgrade resulted in a 1,340% increase in 100G capacity and an 864-port boost in 400G capacity per rack space, with a 43% reduction in watts/gig power consumption, according to Juniper.

For its data centre modernization, stc used 400G-ready MX10008 routers, which delivered a 384-port boost in 400G capacity per site, a 90% reduction in physical space requirements per site, and an 87% decrease in watts/gig power consumption compared to previous multi-layer designs.

Bader Allhieb, VP of infrastructure at stc, commented, “This capacity expansion will enable us to bring 5G to millions more people and businesses across Saudi Arabia. stc can continue to attract and retain mobile customers at scale while also reducing our carbon footprint and operational expenditure.”
