Türkiye Launches 5G-Powered Smart Transportation Initiative with Türksat and ULAK Haberleşme

Türksat and ULAK Haberleşme have signed a significant agreement to establish a 5G private network infrastructure for Cooperative and Smart Transportation Systems (K-AUS). This collaboration, unveiled at MWC 2025 in Barcelona, will deploy a 5G-supported smart transportation infrastructure along a 40-kilometer corridor from Istanbul’s Hasdal Junction to Istanbul Airport, covering 19 sites.

The 5G private network will include locally developed components such as Base Stations (gNodeB – RAN), Core Network, and a Network Management and Monitoring System (NMS), ensuring seamless service and connectivity. This infrastructure will improve vehicle communication capabilities, enabling Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V), Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I), and Vehicle-to-Network (V2N) connectivity, crucial for enhancing road safety and transportation efficiency.

Dr. R. Ruşen Kömürcü, General Manager of ULAK Haberleşme, emphasized Türkiye’s leadership in national communication solutions, describing the project as a milestone in the country’s smart transportation ecosystem. The collaboration with Türksat is set to pave the way for safer, faster, and more efficient urban mobility.

Türksat General Manager Ahmet Hamdi Atalay underscored the strategic importance of the partnership, stating that leveraging 5G technology will advance Türkiye’s global competitiveness in mobile communication and strengthen its transportation infrastructure. This initiative is a key step toward Türkiye’s digital transformation with national technologies.
