Bangladeshi Firms Partner with Starlink for Earth Station Setup

Several Bangladeshi companies have reportedly teamed up with satellite operator Starlink to assist in the establishment of earth stations across the country. These local firms have signed collaboration agreements with Starlink during a visit by a team from the US telecommunications provider to Bangladesh.

According to the Daily Star, the partnership includes space allocation, construction support, and ongoing infrastructure maintenance, although the identities of the involved local companies have not been disclosed. In some cases, Starlink is considering using land owned by Bangladeshi firms, while in others, it is exploring spaces within high-tech parks, likely those managed by the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA), a government agency dedicated to developing and operating technology business parks throughout the country.

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, a special assistant to the country’s chief advisor on telecommunications and IT, indicated that discussions regarding locations and implementation details are still ongoing.

The initiative aims to improve internet access across Bangladesh, especially in cities, remote areas, northern regions, and coastal areas, addressing challenges like load shedding (energy shortages or blackouts) and the lack of telecom-grade fibre networks. Starlink is expected to provide reliable, high-speed internet, overcoming these challenges. The goal is to implement a workable model with Starlink within the next 90 days.
